ABSTRACT

A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE POPULAR PARTY AND THE SOCIALIST PARTY IN THE 2016 AND 2019 PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN SPAIN

Given the electoral result recorded by the Spanish People`s Party and the Spanish Socialist Workers` Party in the period 2016-2019, it can be seen that these political actors enjoy the highest degree of political representation in the Spanish Parliament. Through this article, I wanted to analyze the main factors that determined the evolution of the results obtained by the two political parties in the parliamentary elections of 2016 and 2019 (November). Therefore, a comparative analysis of the two parties was implemented in this study, in relation to three categories of determining factors:, the ability of the parties to adapt to the preferences of the electoral segments, the role of electoral campaigns, and the influence of political leaders on the performance of parties in elections.
