In Romania, after the establishment of the communist regime, sociology was banned in education and research, being officially relaunched only in 1965. In this context, Miron Constantinescu, an important politician of the Communist regime, as well as an intellectual and a professor, played a significant role. Thanks to him, in 1966, were founded the Department of Sociology at the University of Bucharest and the Laboratory of Sociology.
